The candidate will work with the executive Board of Directors and parents to ensure the effective and efficient running of the centre.
Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervises children using multiple strategies including observation and positive guidance techniques.
  • Implement creative childcare programs including scheduled Playschool program element that have been developed by the Manager.
  • Execute the day to day operations of the childcare facility including adhering to staff child ratios and age ranges.
  • Ensure NPS/NCDC philosophies and practices are adhered to regarding the children’s needs.
  • Foster an environment that respects children’s strengths, rights and needs.
  • Assist the Manager’s leadership regarding client relations, program development, classroom leadership, health and safety practices, standards, staff relations and compliance.
  • Foster relationships with families and outside community resources.
  • Maintain proactive and positive communication through excellence in child care service and adherence to NPS/NCDC guidelines.
  • Maintain the smooth operation of the daycare site.
  • Maintain accurate and secure record keeping.
  • Attend training and professional development opportunities made available by the Manager.
  • Assist in maximizing student enrolment.
  • Assist in the collection of fees, registration, working within budgets, and limited banking
  • Assist the safeguarding of confidential information.
  • Ensure that all relevant legislative requirements are met with compliance.

The ECE will provide exemplary childcare guided by the British Columbia (BC) Learning Framework and the Early Early Childhood Educators of BC Code of Ethics. This position requires assisting the manager in planning and implementing a safe and appropriate early learning environment for the children within a licensed group care setting. The ECE will assist in the application of these Early Learning Framework principles:
  • Building meaningful relationships with all children and maintaining an environment respectful of children’s strengths and needs.
  • Facilitate the acceptance and celebration of diversity among the children and families and the cultural groups they represent.
  • Ensure the care and learning is visible to parents
  • Create, monitor, participate and evaluate the effectiveness of the daycare curriculum and makes decisions to implement change as required.
  • Protect and respect the rights of children and the determination of appropriate interventions to ensure the protection of those rights.​

This ECE will assist in all safety and reporting requirements, and ensure the program complies with all licensing regulations set forth in the Child Care Licensing Regulations under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act of BC and Interior Health Authority. Must also be able to work with parent volunteers in a parent participation daycare. 

The ECE is responsible for all decisions made at the daycare that fall within the delegated responsibilities set forth in the Child Care Licensing Regulations including but not limited to:
  • Recognizing, documenting and taking appropriate action in the case of suspected abuse, illness or accident. 
  • Ensuring serious incidences are reported to the appropriate authority and all required documentation is completed.
  • Promoting the health and safety of all children including ensuring safe food practices and routine infectious control practices are in place.
  • Providing first aid services as required following appropriate first aid practices and centre policies.
  • Maintaining and storing records appropriately.
  • Assisting in the development of policies and procedures specific to the child care program
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Emergency procedures and health and safety protocols.
  • Maintaining the environment and equipment indoors and outdoors and takes appropriate steps to ensure all safety requirements are met.
  • Adhering to the sanitizing schedule.
  • Ensuring all decisions made in the child care program comply with NCDC Child Care Services policies and procedures and NPS policy and procedures.
  • Assist the Manager in communicating with community agencies and training institutions through a variety of means as is relevant to the success of the child care program.

The ECE will create and maintain respectful, meaningful and professional relationships with families that honour the role of the parent as the primary caregiver. This will be achieved by ensuring:
  • Effective orientations are provided to new families to the daycare
  • Due consideration is given and accommodation where possible of the parents' requests for daily care routines within the context of a licensed group care facility.
  • Promotion of the daily exchange of information about children's progress and the program between staff and parents/guardians.
  • Assisting with and participating in parent/teacher conferences, as required.
  • Refer families to the Manager regarding external resources.
    
The ECE will assist in advocating quality services for individual children and families by:
  • Supporting families to access specialized services that may be required for their children
  • Keeping informed of current events in the child care sector
  • Satisfactorily complete any other related tasks or requests from the NPS/NCDC Board of Directors.

The ECE will maintain a professional demeanour at all times and will address any breaches in professional conduct by the childcare team including but not limited to:
  • Appropriate dress and hygiene
  • Language, voice tone and style of communication
  • Relationships with colleagues, children and parents
  • Confidentiality and protection of privacy

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • ECE Licence to Practice (British Columbia or equivalent)
  • First-aid Certification (includes Child First Aid, CPR)
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Medical Clearance
  • Immunization Clearance
  • 3 Reference Letters
  • Automotive Insurance: To and from work, with $5 million and 3rd party liability​

Responsible Adult

Looking for a responsible, caring, and reliable adult to work in our busy summer camp style daycare this summer in Naramata. This position would ideally carry on into the fall, when we run out before and after school program. Candidate must complete a first aid course, criminal record check, and 20 hour online course upon being hired. Pay is $18 per hour and schedule is somewhat flexible with part time and full time options.
